Longsword

Round Table Historical Fencing teaches Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) focusing on medieval German longsword. Unlike many other modern combative systems, we approach our Art from a historical, martial perspective—that is, always with lethal intent. Our experience and proper training equipment allow us to do this while maintaining a safe learning atmosphere.

We teach from a system called "Kunst des Fechtens." This translates from German to "The Art of Fighting." It was developed by the 14th-century fencing master, Johnnes Liechtenauer. The longsword is a two handed weapon. Many fencing masters refer to it as the "queen of all weapons." This is not because it is superior to all other weapons, but  the techniques from longsword are the most versatile. It is easy to take the fundamental principles of longsword and apply them successfully with other weapons such as sidesword, rapier, and even unarmed combat.
